​The Veteran's Administration recently updated its State Fees and Charges Deviations List, which identifies fees considered reasonable and customary in specific states but not nationwide. These state-specific fees fall within the "itemized fees and charges" category that veterans may pay in addition to the lender's one percent flat charge and reasonable discount points. For Texas lenders, a "Document Preparation Fee" paid to an outside attorney for preparing loan documents is now recognized as a reasonable and customary charge on all loan types. Previously, this was limited to refinance transactions only.
